Goal
This guide will walk you through the basics of using the Weebly website builder—from creating and organizing pages to optimizing them for SEO.
📹 A tutorial video from Danny is also included to visually guide you through each step.
Let’s get started! 🚀
Step 1: Log into Weebly
💻 Once logged in, you’ll land on the dashboard.
✅ Ensure you have selected the correct site.
📝 Sites that are published are clearly labeled.
For this tutorial, we are working on the site titled “Didn’t Come on Sight”.
Step 2: Enter the Editor
Click “Edit Site” to open the Weebly editor.
Step 3: Navigating Pages
Go to the Pages tab
You'll see all pages in the live site’s dropdown menu
📤 Reorder Pages
Drag and drop pages to rearrange their order in the site’s navigation bar
🚫 Hidden or Non-clickable Pages
Pages with a “no-click” icon are hidden from the nav menu
Ex: “Blog” page may be excluded
Step 4: Page Visibility & SEO Settings
Click the three dots (⋮) on any page to:
🔒 Page Visibility
Hide/Show in Navigation
Hide/Show from Google
⚠️ These are separate toggles!
✅ Keep hidden from Google while editing
🔓 Unhide when the page is complete and ready to be indexed
SEO Settings (Very Important for Google)
Page Title: Appears in browser tabs and search engines.
URL: Auto-fills from title but can be customized.
Description: Appears in search results under the title.
Meta Keywords: Help improve SEO visibility.
Step 5: Adding a New Page
Click Add Page
Choose:
✅ Standard Page (recommended)
✅ Blog Page (only if needed)
In this tutorial, we use a Standard Page for simplicity.
Step 6: Building the Page
Hide it from:
Navigation
Google
Set a page name:
Example: Salsa Classes in Los Angeles
Choose a Header Type (affects visual layout only—not SEO tags)
Ignore Password Protection (unless you're building a private site)
Step 7: Drag-and-Drop Elements (Build Tab)
Common Elements:
Title
Text
Image
Dividers (lines)
Spacers (blank space)
Image Placement:
Drag into a text box to have text wrap around it.
➡️ Drag image to the right for side-by-side layout.
Multiple Columns:
Place elements next to each other (not below) to create columns.
💡 Tip: Watch for a blue vertical bar to know you're creating a new column
Step 8: Using Sections, Spacings, & Dividers
Sections can be customized.
Dividers add lines between content.
Spacers add blank space for visual separation.
Step 9: Editing Text
Click any text block to edit
Use standard formatting tools (bold, size, color, etc.)
You can also:
✂️ Copy or move text between pages
🔃 Drag text blocks up/down
Step 10: Publishing the Page
Click Publish to make the page live.
✅ Accessible on the internet
Not visible to Google unless you unhide it manually.
To view the page, use the exact URL based on your page name.
Example:
Step 11: Header Tag Formatting for SEO
By default:
🛑 Weebly only uses H2 tags for titles (not ideal for SEO)
✅ The Fix:
Use the “H1 Tag” widget from the bottom of the Build panel
Steps:
Drag in the H1 Tag element
Replace the default text (e.g., “Salsa Classes in Los Angeles”)
Style as needed: center, color, bold, etc.
Make sure:
There is only one H1 on the page
All other titles (sections) are H2 or smaller
Final Checklist Before Publishing to Google
🔲 Unhide the page from Google
✍️ Fill out:
✔️ SEO Page Title
✔️ Custom URL (if needed)
✔️ Meta Description
✔️ Keywords (optional)
✅ Optional: Show in Navigation Menu
📢 Reminder:Publishing ≠ SEO visibility
Google can only index the page if "Show to Google" is enabled
Common Gotchas
Problem | Solution |
❌ No H1 tag | Use the H1 Tag widget |
🚫 Page missing from menu | Check Navigation visibility |
🔍 Page not showing in search | Ensure Show to Google is enabled |
🤔 Wrong URL | Edit the page URL in SEO settings |
🧱 Weird layout | Use Spacers, Dividers, or reset page layout |
