Student Spotlight:

Sima Ghaddar

Salsa Student

Sima’s salsa journey began with a fun and exciting first experience that quickly ignited her passion for dance. She stays committed to improving her skills through weekly classes, individual practice, and recap videos. Encouraged by a classmate to balance dedication with enjoyment, Sima has found motivation in combining hard work with the joy of dancing. She also values switching partners during social dances, as it deepens her understanding of different styles while enhancing the social connections salsa offers.

At Movers and Shakers, Sima has formed meaningful friendships through group trainings and social events. These interactions have enriched her journey, turning classmates into a supportive community that keeps her inspired on and off the dance floor.

Sima shares his dance journey through the following interview questions.

Sima Ghaddar

1. What was your first experience in dancing salsa like?

Great and fun.

2. What strategies do you use to remember the steps and techniques taught in class?

Weekly practice. Home individual practice. Seeking out practices with a classmate. And the recap videos for sure !

3. Have you ever had a salsa classmate or instructor who pushed you to exceed your own expectations? How did that impact your salsa journey?

One of my classmates encouraged me to enjoy and have fun while committing to weekly practice. He motivated me.

4. Do you prefer dancing with the same partner all night or switching partners frequently? Why?

I think switching is very helpful only because it allows you to enjoy the sociality of salsa dance and allows you to know your body and your skills more and that of your partner.

5. How did your connections with classmates from our dance classes turn into meaningful friendships outside of class?

Through group trainings and social events.
