Student Spotlight:
Sevil Turner
Salsa Student
Inspired by a friend’s positive experience, Sevil took a chance on salsa at Movers and Shakers—and was immediately drawn into its rhythm and energy. The welcoming environment and dynamic structure of the classes made it easy to dive in and stay motivated. Salsa offered her something no other activity had: a chance to connect with music through movement.
Sevil relies on consistency and repetition to build muscle memory and sharpen her technique. Practicing several times a day has helped her internalize steps and feel more confident on the dance floor. One aspect that continues to surprise her is the emotional and physical experience of dancing—it’s unlike anything else she’s tried, offering a unique way to feel music in the body.
If she could instantly improve one part of her dancing, it would be her spins. She views them as not only an artistic challenge but also a brain-boosting exercise that strengthens coordination, balance, and neuroplasticity. Looking back, she would remind her beginner self to slow down and enjoy the journey—because the joy is found not just in the destination, but in every step along the way.
