Salsa Student Spotlight:
Kyle Gray
Kyle was drawn to salsa not because it felt natural, but because it didn’t. Dancing had never been part of his world, and that’s exactly what made it so appealing—he saw it as a chance to challenge himself and grow. From the start, the entire process felt foreign, but that discomfort became a space for transformation.
One of the most unexpected places Kyle found himself practicing salsa was at the gym. Even outside the studio, he leaned into the challenge, reinforcing that growth often happens in the least likely moments. The experience of consistently showing up, even when it wasn’t easy, helped shift his mindset about what he’s capable of.
For Kyle, salsa has become a powerful metaphor for life: growth comes from doing things that aren’t always fun or easy. He credits Movers and Shakers for creating a supportive, welcoming environment where pushing personal boundaries feels safe. The community, full of positivity, makes it easier to keep showing up—even when it’s uncomfortable.

1. What inspired you to take salsa lessons here in Los Angeles?
Getting outside my comfort zone.
2. What moment at a Movers and Shakers salsa class made you feel out of your comfort zone? How did you handle it, and what did you learn from that experience?
The entire experience, to be honest. Dancing isn't something that's in my spectrum, and the whole process was foreign to me, which has been a big growth experience.
3. What’s a time you found yourself unexpectedly dancing salsa in a unique or unusual place? Where were you, and how did it go down?
Definitely practicing salsa at the gym.
4. In what ways has dancing salsa improved your life in general?
Getting used to being uncomfortable and pushing yourself into doing something that you know won’t exactly be super fun but will help you grow.
5. How would you describe the atmosphere and community at Movers and Shakers Dance Academy?
Really positive and welcoming.
