Student Spotlight:

Jonathan Biviano

Salsa Student

Jonathan Biviano discovered salsa thanks to a recommendation from Inna (Dance Instructor) —and it turned out to be exactly the push he needed. What started as a suggestion grew into a regular part of his life, eventually shaping how he approached both movement and mindset.

For Jonathan, the biggest key to growth has been consistent practice. Repetition, both in and outside of class, helped build muscle memory and confidence.

At one point, he began treating salsa like a chore rather than a joy, and the passion faded. Looking back, he’d remind his past self of a simple but powerful truth: have fun. That mindset shift brought him back—not just to class, but to the enjoyment that originally drew him in.

1. What inspired you to choose Movers and Shakers to learn to dance salsa?

Inna [Dance Instructor] recommended me to try and I'm glad she did.

2. What strategies help you get the most out of your salsa class each week?

Practice, practice, practice.

3. What salsa dance experience stands out that felt truly magical? What makes it stand out?

Learning the Coca Cola is an experience when you first see it.

4. What is your favorite salsa song to dance to, and why?

"Baile Inolvidable"—just because it's very upbeat and the tempo is not too fast.

5. If you could give your past self one piece of advice before starting to learn salsa, what would it be?

Have fun. I treated this as a job at one point and my love for it was gone, which is why I took a break.
