Student Spotlight:
Claire Huestis
Salsa Student
Claire Huestis began her salsa journey with a mix of nerves and curiosity. Thankfully, the clear structure and supportive instructors at Movers and Shakers helped ease her into the rhythm. What once felt intimidating quickly became something she looked forward to, as each class built her confidence step by step.
To stay on track and improve, Claire found simple but effective tools that made a big difference—especially the weekly recap videos from class, which helped her review and practice between sessions. Over time, consistency became her secret weapon.
What started as a new hobby has turned into a meaningful part of her week. The social, energetic environment of Movers and Shakers has helped Claire step outside her comfort zone and fully engage in the experience. For her, salsa isn’t just about perfecting technique—it’s about letting go, being present, and finding joy in the music and movement.

How did you feel at the beginning, middle, and end of your first salsa class?
Starting my first class, I was nervous, but the instructors broke down the dance moves into simple steps, making them easy to understand. I left the class feeling comfortable with the curriculum.
What strategies have helped you the most in remembering salsa steps and improving your skills?
Watching the Movers and Shakers weekly recap videos! They are super helpful.
What salsa dance experience stands out that felt truly magical? What makes it stand out?
Friday night Movers and Shakers practices because of the strobing lights and fast-paced music.
What is your favorite salsa song to dance to, and why?
Yo No Sé Mañana because of "the feels."
If you could give your past self one piece of advice before starting to learn salsa, what would it be?
Don't be afraid to make mistakes—you learn faster that way, and dancing salsa becomes more fun!
