ABOUT SALSA 103

 

Salsa 103 is the bridge from 102 to “sophisticated, advanced dancer.”

 

 

SALSA 103a vs 103b

 

Material is 100% different.

​

103b is not harder than 103a (they’re both challenging!)

​

One is not meant to be done before the other. Starting with 103b is perfectly fine.

 

THE 103 FOCUS

• Become a sophisticated Salsero who can lead/follow just about anything

• Unlock patterns with double spins and styling

• Develop musicality

• Develop upper body movement

• Explore different types of preps (and non-preps) for turns

THE CURRICULUM

 

PARTNERING

• Double spins (or extra traveling spins) for follows in every pattern

• Styling for follows in every pattern

• Longer patterns

• Learn to create your own patterns

 

SHINES

• Advanced shines that include upper body movement

• Longer patterns

• Musicality play

 

Program will introduce new shines only the first three weeks, which will be reviewed through the season to build mastery.

 

The goal is now feeling, flavor, and mastery of a few sophisticated movements, rather than endless new movements done mediocre.

 

Majority of the program will focus on partnering.

 

SKILLS AND DRILLS:

• Double spins in place, both directions, for follows and leads

• Extra spins while traveling with balance and control

 

CONNECTION FOCUS:

• Partnering with light, clear connection

• Partnering with feeling and flavor

 

YOUR INSTRUCTORS:

• Week 1: Taught by director Danny (with Inna & Luis)

• Weeks 2-10: Instructors Inna and Luis Alberto

 

THE COMMITMENT:

• CLASS: Show up!

• PRACTICE PRE-CLASS: Strongly encouraged to arrive 1 hour before class to practice together outside the studio or in the studio (when available or pre-rented by students)

• SOCIAL DANCING: Strongly encouraged to go social dancing at least one time per week and USE WHAT YOU’RE LEARNING IN THE PROGRAM

• AT HOME: Leads MUST PRACTICE THE PATTERNS, AT HOME, WITH A GHOST PARTNER, EVERY WEEK
